April 13: Job 20-22

Job 20-22

“Then the Almighty will be your gold and choice silver … and the humble person He will save” (22:25-29).  This statement demonstrates that Eliphaz and Zophar, Job’s friends, knew some true things about God and the world.  They both acknowledged God’s righteousness, His wisdom, and His power.  Zophar rightly stated that wicked people eventually will be punished (ch 20).  However, they failed to understand Job’s particular situation, and so their superior, self-satisfied speeches mocked him (21:3).  They had knowledge, but not compassion.

In the New Testament, James warns against pride which leads to harsh judgments of others, for “mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13).
