April 17: Proverbs 5

Proverbs 5

“And I have not listened to the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to my instructors!” (v13).  The proverbs are a “reality check” on the walk of faith and righteousness.  They remind us that, though we have good teachers, the competing voice of temptation is amazingly attractive.  “Smoother than oil is her speech” (v3) – so smooth that we forget “her feet go down to death” (v5).  Whether our temptation is lust, greed, selfishness or anger, it is wrapped in a lovely package.

But we are not helpless.  By faith we can put on “the armor of God” and stand firm (Eph 6).
