April 18: Psalm 20

Psalm 20

“May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!” (v1).  This prayer is a joyful declaration of faith, not just a friendly wish.  The people of Israel sang this as mutual encouragement based on actual experience.  “We have risen and stood upright” (v8): Israel had experienced miracles and demonstrations of God’s presence.  They had been saved many times by their God, and so they confidently declared that they would, again, “sing for joy over your victory” (v5).

We don’t know how or when God will answer, but we can trust Him.  “We will boast in the name of the Lord our God” (v7).
