Mark 3
“Whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother” (v35). Jesus did not set up a kingdom based on physical family relationships. The ancient world greatly respected family ties, and our own God-given instinct is to cherish and provide for those bound to us by blood and marriage. Jesus was not undermining the family structure, but He was pointing us toward membership in a larger community, where we are all adopted children of the same Father.
Our unity in Christ can overcome the natural human barriers of kinship, culture, and status. We are equally lost and found in Him.
