Leviticus 20-21
“No man among the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a defect is to come near …” (v21). Defects included damaged hands, feet, or eyesight, for example (v16-21). These imperfections, like illnesses, symbolized the brokenness of the world, and therefore excluded the priest from offering sacrifices and going in to “the veil” (v23). But God does not reject damaged people. Jesus allowed Himself to be broken for our sakes, becoming an outcast and “a curse” so that we can share in His perfect holiness.
In Christ, we can all go behind the veil into the presence of the Father (Heb 4:16).
