Psalm 87
"This one was born there" (v4). Every human needs to belong somewhere. For good or for evil, we define ourselves by "my city, my family, my tribe." Zion/Jerusalem in the Old Testament was a real, cherished place, but it was also symbolically the home of God's people, where God chose to dwell with them. "Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God" (v3). Spiritually, the real Zion belongs to believers from every nation: Rahab and Babylon ... and Ethiopia" (v4).
Through Christ, we belong in the Kingdom. "You are fellow citizens with the saints ..." (Eph 2:19).
