August 11: Jeremiah 10-11

Jeremiah 10-11

“It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom … the Maker of all is He” (10:12-16).  The prophet Jeremiah called Judah (southern Israel) back from idolatry.  They had rejected the Creator of everything in order to worship objects made from gold, silver, and wood (v3-5).  These idols seemed more “natural”; they were familiar, controllable, and worshipped by Israel’s neighbors.  But the invisible God of Abraham was alive.

We can’t manipulate “the Maker of all,” put Him in our pockets, or pacify Him by our attempts to be good.  We can only cast ourselves on His mercy.
