August 12: Jeremiah 12-13

Jeremiah 12-13

“The waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless” (13:7).  God told the prophet Jeremiah to bury a linen cloth and then dig it up “after many days” (v6).   Obviously, the cloth was ruined.  God used this image to describe His people.  They were made for one purpose: to cling to God, “that they might be for Me a people … for praise and for glory” (v11).  But when they worshipped idols and rejected God, they lost their purpose and were “ruined.”

The amazing news is that in Jesus Christ, our purposeless, damaged lives are reclaimed.  Washed and transformed, we begin to reflect His glory in the world.
