Judges 4-6
“In the days of Jael, the highways were deserted …” (5:6). Deborah’s victory song described the violent, lawless conditions of Israel. Without a king, without a temple, chaos reigned, and ordinary people stayed off the highways. In this difficult era, God raised up unusual heroes for His people. Ehud was left-handed (3:15), which was like a curse, and Deborah and Jael were strong and courageous women. Life was not “as it should be,” yet God was definitely at work.
“That the leaders led … bless the Lord!”(5:2). In that desperate time, traditional qualifications mattered little. God used people who were willing and full of faith.
