Song of Solomon 3-5
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you” (4:7). This wonderful exaggeration is one of the characteristics of new, romantic love: seeing the other as “perfect.” Both the bride and bridegroom in this wedding poem describe their partner as physically without equal; “desirable” and flawless from head to toe. The challenge in later years is to continue to view each other through eyes of love.
Knowing we are sinful yet loving us anyway, God in Christ teaches us how to love each other. “Love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
