Song of Solomon 6-8

“Put me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death …” (v6). The sacred covenant between a man and woman was God’s idea, and it reflects the eternal relationship between Christ and the Church (the people of God). In its proper earthly context, marriage is a gift to be celebrated and cherished. The danger is in thinking (as the world thinks) that human love is the goal of our existence.

The self-sacrificial power of human love, at its best, points us toward the eternal love God.
