August 17: Jeremiah 15-16

Jeremiah 15-16

“Then I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; and though they fight against you, they will not prevail over you” (15:20).  Jeremiah’s country-men had made idol-worship and immorality normal (16:12, 18), and the atmosphere of the country was poisoned.  In that culture, God told Jeremiah to be different, to “extract the precious from the worthless” (v19) and hold fast to the truth.  Jeremiah would be persecuted for this (15:15), but God promised to defend him.

Jeremiah had to choose between the approval of men and the approval of God.  He chose to be a “wall of bronze,” unshakeable in his integrity.
