August 17: Psalm 43

"O send out Thy light and Thy truth, let them lead me ... to God my exceeding joy" (v4). We cherish God's gifts - prosperity, healing, beauty, family, etc. Yet, at some point, usually in our darkest times, we learn that God Himself is our "exceeding joy." The psalmist asked, "Why are you in despair, O my soul? Hope in God ..." (v5). Hard-pressed by conflicts and fears (v1-2), he let go of other desires and found comfort in God's presence.

"Let them bring me to Thy holy hill, and to Thy dwelling places" (v3). God Himself is our hope and joy.
