Jeremiah 17

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord … for he will be like a tree planted by the water” (17:8).  Through Jeremiah, God said that the human heart is “more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick” (v9).  Because of this, depending on ourselves leads to trouble (v5).  We are geniuses at justifying sin and ignoring our consciences. 

But when we trust the goodness and love of God, we are like trees whose leaves stay green and fresh even in times of drought (v8).  We cling to God and follow His ways, even when our world is shaken.
