August 2: Luke 17

Luke 17

“For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst” (21).  People in Israel in the first century saw Jesus, touched Him, and heard Him teach, but they didn’t all recognize Him as the Messiah.  Those intent on pursuing their own lives, being their own gods, cannot be persuaded to change even by someone rising from the dead (16:31).  In Noah’s time and Lot’s time, “the kingdom of God” was visible in godly people, but they and their warnings were ignored.

Jesus’ dire warnings have the urgency of now: the Kingdom is available and present today, and we must choose to enter through Christ.
