Psalm 114

“Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, before the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water” (v8).  Ancient people were much more at the mercy of the physical world than we are in our daily lives.  Drought, storms, the sea and mountains, and wild animals were constant dangers (rather than once-a-year headline news).  The plagues God sent to Egypt and the dramatic Red Sea crossing demonstrated that the Creator was in control of everything.

No matter what we fear, no matter what is out of our control or simply “too much” for us, God is greater.
