August 22: Isaiah 5-6

Isaiah 5-6

“Woe to me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips …” (6:5). Isaiah’s humility is exactly what Judah lacked, and the reason for their punishment. They were God’s people, but they called “evil good, and good evil” (5:20). They disdained His Law and scoffed at His promises (5:19). In contrast, when Isaiah saw “the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted” (6:1), he trembled.

When we recognize our brokenness, God always responds. The angel touched Isaiah’s lips with a coal and said “your sin is forgiven” (v7).
