"For I will not trust in my bow, nor will my sword save me" (v6). The Israelites were suffering defeat. "Thou hast rejected us and brought us to dishonor" (v9). They remembered what "our fathers have told us" (v1) about God's miracles, and they yearned to see God's power. They could not rescue themselves, and so they waited for God to act. "For Thy sake we are killed all day long ..." (v22).

"Rise up, be our help, and redeem us ..." (v26). God has not changed; in His perfect time and way, He will deliver us.
