August 24: Psalm 114-115

Psalm 114-115

“Tremble, O earth, before the Lord … who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water” (114:7-8). The psalmist remembered “when Israel went forth from Egypt” (v1), because this miraculous escape proved God’s power over the earth. Israel’s wilderness journey - crossing the sea, finding water in the desert, manna every day - revealed God’s ability to provide in impossible circumstances. He is not “the work of man’s hands” (115:4), or the product of our imaginations.

Whether our wilderness is physical, financial, emotional or spiritual, we can trust God, “our help and shield” (115:9).
