August 26: Jeremiah 26-28

Jeremiah 26-28

“You have broken the yokes of wood, but you have made instead of them yokes of iron” (28:13).  God said that because Judah had rejected Him, He would use Babylon to subdue them (but not forever).  Jeremiah wore a wooden yoke used to control farm animals to demonstrate this message.  Hananiah, a false prophet, broke the yoke, saying God was going to bring peace within two years (ch 28).  But Jeremiah said that rejecting God’s discipline was like exchanging bonds of wood for bonds of iron.

God’s discipline is for our good (Hebrews 12:10-11).  Submitting to His loving hand leads to the health and peace we desire.
