Psalm 115
“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, because of your lovingkindness and because of your truth” (v1). The psalmist wanted pagan nations to look at Israel and know that their God was alive, in contrast to the idols which were “the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak …” (v4-5). The world was supposed to observe Israel and see something different: the presence of the Creator, at work in and through His creation.
When God’s presence is evident in our lives as our “help and shield” (v11), the world takes notice, and He is glorified.
