Psalm 45
“And in Thy majesty ride on victoriously, for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness” (v4). This poem celebrates a royal marriage, and it uses exaggerated, poetic language to praise the king. No human king could even fulfill these words: “a scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Thy kingdom” (v6). But our desire for this kind of a leader reveals our universal longing for a better kingdom and a perfect King.
We want to be citizens of a country where the King is all-powerful, yet reigns in “truth and meekness and righteousness.” Following Jesus means pledging our hearts’ loyalty to that Kingdom.
