Psalm 46
“God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear …” (v1-2). In the psalmist’s day, as in ours, there were lots of reasons to fear. The earth might change; the powerful forces of our planet might cause destruction (v2-3). Or, nations and people might “make an uproar” (v6), by war, economic failure or cultural conflict. But the psalmist declared that “we will not fear,” because God is in the middle of His people, His city (v4-6).
God is our refuge in the middle of crisis. We can “cease striving” and trust that He is in charge (v10).
