Ecclesiastes 9-10
“There is one fate for the righteous and for the wicked …” (v2). Ignorant of eternity (v10), the author asserted that death comes to everyone, regardless of achievements. Wealthy kings have no more protection than the poorest slave. “Time and chance” overtake every human, and therefore desperate striving after goals is pointless (v11) . Enjoy life with your spouse and work hard (v9-10), for this is your reward.
Death is still inevitable (and simple pleasures are still God’s gifts), but death is not the end. There is another Kingdom where “time and chance” have no power, and the King reigns forever.
