August 6: Jeremiah 7

Jeremiah 7

“Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place” (v3).  God was angry with the people of Judah because of their religious hypocrisy.  They rejected His ways in their personal lives, but then they went to the Temple to worship (v1-7).  God said that He wanted them to express their faith by how they treated others, and then He would accept their worship.  “If you do not oppress the alien (foreigner), the orphan, or the widow … nor walk after other gods … I will let you dwell in this place” (v7).

God wants our hearts, not just outward compliance (v8-11).
