Joshua 22-24
“So take diligent heed to yourselves to love the Lord your God” (23:11). Obeying the law was part of God’s covenant with Israel: “Be very firm, then, to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law” (v6). However, the law-following wasn’t possible without relationship. Without trust, Israel would never be able to resist the temptations around them. They would be attracted to other gods and other lifestyles, and God’s rules would seem burdensome.
When we love God and are convinced He loves us, His commands are not burdensome. They are the light for our path.
