Galatians 6
“For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself” (v2). Paul is not recommending low self-esteem. He is talking about the delicate issue of addressing sin in a fellow-believer’s life (v1). When we recognize sin in someone else, our tendency is to feel self-righteous about ourselves, and then we develop dangerous false pride. Paul warns us to keep a humble spirit, continuing to examine ourselves (v4), and not placing our faith in outward marks of religion (v15).
When our faith is in the crucified and resurrected Christ and not ourselves (v14), our main attitude is joyful humility.
