August 8: Song of Solomon 1-2

Song of Solomon 1-2

“He has brought me to his banquet hall, and his banner over me is love” (v4). This royal marriage poem celebrates human love and also points us to the love of God. The bride and bridegroom find satisfaction in each other, revealed in the rich details of roses and lilies, perfume, raisin cakes and apples, descriptions of face and form. They have confidence in one another: “My beloved is mine and I am his” (2:16).

The best of human love reflects the heart of God. He calls us to real relationship with Him – more satisfying and joyful than we can imagine.
