August 9: Luke 19:1-10

Luke 19:1-10

“He, too, is a son of Abraham” (19:9).  To be called the son of Abraham, God’s friend, was a great honor.  Zaccheus’ repentance and inclusion in God’s family, despite his past, reminds us of another inhabitant of Jericho (v1).  Centuries earlier, Rahab the prostitute had glimpsed “the kingdom of God” when Israelite spies visited her, and she left everything to join that kingdom.  Neither Zaccheus nor Rahab were the most likely candidates for salvation, but they accepted the gift offered them.

There are no prerequisites for salvation, except a willing heart.  God’s kingdom is open, through Christ, to anyone who receives Him (John 1:12).
