December 10: II Kings 22-23

II Kings 22-23

“Josiah was eight years old when he became king” (22:1).  Josiah was the descendent of wicked men; his grandfather King Manasseh “made his son pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft” (21:6), and put idols in God’s Temple.  But despite this horrible legacy, Josiah wanted to do right.  He discovered the lost Law (22:8) and realized that Israel had forgotten God’s ways.  He tore down the idols, led the people in re-covenanting with God, and celebrated the first Passover in generations (23:22).

Young Josiah refused to follow his family, instead embracing God “with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might” (23:25).
