Psalm 140-141
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth … do not incline my heart to any evil thing” (141:3-4). The psalmist admitted that he needed God’s protection against “the wicked” (Psalm 140; 141:10), and he needed God’s strength to resist temptation. Both kinds of trouble, inward and outward, can make our lives miserable. “Do not leave me defenseless,” the psalmist prayed (v8), Humbly, he asked that other righteous people would help to correct and guide him (v5).
Sometimes we suffer from “the hands of the wicked” (140:4), and sometimes we suffer through our own impulsive words and deeds. In every battle, God is our refuge (141:8).
