Acts 10-12
"What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy" (10:16). Since Abraham, the Jewish people had been defined by separateness. Peter, as a devout Jew, had kept himself pure and holy by not associating with Gentiles and not eating "unclean" or forbidden foods. Even though God had told Abraham, "in you all the families of the earth will blessed", the Good News hadn't yet spread. Peter's vision was shocking. Then, the Spirit fell on Cornelius and his believing friends (10:44).
"I most certainly understand now" (10:34), Peter said. God's kingdom is bigger and His mercy greater than we imagined.
