Psalm 66
“We went through fire and water; yet Thou didst bring us out into a place of abundance” (v12). This is the praise of a mature believer, someone who has been “refined” as silver when it goes through fire. The psalmist remembered the frightening, painful times the Israelites had experienced, yet God led them “through the river on foot” (v6). In his own life, the psalmist was eager to tell people “what He has done for my soul” (v16).
Through “fire and water,” the psalmist could say “Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer nor His lovingkindness from me” (v20).
