Nahum
“Who can endure the burning of His anger? (1:6). The Old Testament prophets taught the people about God’s fiery holiness. The Lord is “slow to anger,” (v3), but He “will by no means leave the guilty unpunished” (v3). Nahum pronounced God’s judgment on Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, which had oppressed other nations and rejected God’s ways. God gives us many chances to repent (for example, sending Jonah to Nineveh), but not everyone responds to this invitation.
“The Lord is good … and He knows those who take refuge in Him” (1:7). We can trust that God is both just and merciful.
