December 14: Zephaniah 1-3

Zephaniah 1-3

“But I will leave among you a humble and lowly people, and they will take refuge in the name of the Lord” (3:12).  Zephaniah warned that the leaders, the wealthy, and the priests had abused their authority (3:3-4).  Like the arrogant pagan nations (ch 2), these people rejected God because they preferred to be their own gods.  Zephaniah declared that God would punish them, while the humble people would enjoy His protection and redemption, because they relied on His strength (2:3).

“I will save the lame and gather the outcast …” (3:19).  From God’s perspective, we are all “lame and outcast” and in need of His salvation.
