December 16: Zephaniah

Zephaniah

“You will never again be haughty on My holy mountain. But I will leave among you a humble and lowly people, and they will take refuge in the name of the LORD” (3:11-12). In the prophet Zephaniah’s time, arrogant Israelites worshipped the stars and sacrificed to idols (ch1). They thought that they didn’t need protection from the God of Abraham, so they broke His covenant. Zephaniah said that judgment was coming.

However, humble and repentant Israelites would find that God tenderly accepted them. “He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love” (3:17).
