December 17: Haggai

Haggai

“Consider your ways! You have sown much, but harvest little” (1:5). Haggai spoke to the Jews who had returned to Judah from their exile in Babylon. They had built homes for themselves, but God’s Temple still lay in ruins (v4). God said, through Haggai, that the reason their crops were failing was because they had not put Him first. They mistakenly thought that they could take care of their own needs and then worship God.

The Israelites were called to worship God before and above everything. In relationship with Him, their families, homes, and work became holy and blessed (2:14-19).
