Zechariah 6-9
“Dispense true justice, and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother; and do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger or the poor” (7:10). This was the covenant that the Israelites had rejected, and thus God “scattered them with a storm wind among all the nations” (v14). Now, settled in their own land again, God declared that His ways had not changed. He had great plans for His people, but there could not be peace and prosperity without kindness and justice.
With God, true peace always includes mercy and generosity to the poorest and most vulnerable of His beloved creation.
