Acts 14:19-28
"Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God" (v22). This was how Paul and Barnabas went around "strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith" (v22). Since Jesus was crucified, His followers had never expected to be welcomed by society with open arms. Persecution and rejection was "normal," even while they rejoiced with every new believer (v19). The apostles told this truth in every city where the gospel was preached (v23-28).
Stephen and John the Baptist were already martyred, and Paul was stoned. Believers wouldn't find a comfortable kingdom, but new and everlasting Life.
