December 24: I Chronicles 10

I Chronicles 10

“So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the Lord … therefore He killed him and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse” (v13-14).  This chapter briefly summarizes King Saul’s sad end, contrasting it with King David’s bravery and mighty deeds.  However, it’s clear that Saul was dismissed for his own lack of trust in God, not simply to make way for David (v14).  Saul’s failure was a great tragedy of lost potential.

Israel’s throne wasn’t a reward, but a gift.  All God’s gifts (time, relationships, opportunities, money, education) can be gratefully received and used honorably or damaged by sin and thrown away.
