I Chronicles 11-12
“For day by day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army like the army of God” (12:22). Though an outlaw, David was famous for his bravery in battle (I Samuel 29:5) and honorable service to murderous King Saul. His faith in God (12:18) inspired hundreds of “mighty men of valor” (v21) to be more than they could have been on their own. And under David’s leadership, after Saul’s death, Israel was united “with a perfect heart” (v38). As long as David followed God whole-heartedly, the kingdom followed him.
Briefly, Israel tasted the unity and peace of living under courageous, honorable, righteous leadership.
