December 27: Psalm 149

Psalm 149

“For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation” (v4). Our salvation has been accomplished in Christ, but we still live in a broken world. Like the book of Revelation, the psalms reassure God’s people that they will not be “the afflicted ones” forever. One day, God will execute “vengeance on the nations” (v7), and evil will be banished forever. Then, suffering will end, because righteousness and peace will extend throughout a transformed earth.

For this reason, we should “sing to the Lord a new song” and “praise His name with dancing” (v10-3).
