December 31: I Chronicles 16-19

I Chronicles 16-19

“I will be his father, and he shall be My son … his throne shall be established forever” (17:13-14).  God was promising to set David’s son upon Israel’s throne, but it was much more than that.  God was declaring that a descendent of David would be King forever.  Hebrews tells us (Heb 1:5) that this forever-King, the Son, is Jesus.

Jesus’ kingdom is present when men and women trust him, following in the footsteps of David and his mighty men: “Be strong and let us show ourselves courageous . . . and may the Lord do what is good in His sight” (19:13).
