II Samuel 15-16
"Behold, here I am, let Him do to me what seems good to Him" (15:26). Because King David did not administer judgment and consequences when Amnon raped Tamar, his sons' quarrel led to terrible grief. After taking his own revenge on Amnon, Absalom fled. Alone for years, banished from David's sight, he seethed and plotted. When he had gathered a loyal army, Absalom rose up against David. David's words as he fled Jerusalem seemed to acknowledge his responsibility for the crisis.
Once again, David cast himself on God's mercy. He was nothing without God; God alone could redeem and restore.
