December 9: II Kings 18-21

II Kings 18-21

“Thou art the God, Thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth … Incline Thine ear, O Lord, and hear; open Thine eyes, O Lord, and see” (19:15-16).  King Hezekiah of Judah was righteous and God-fearing, and scared.  Northern Israel had already been conquered by the Assyrians, and now the Assyrian king was sending threatening letters to Judah.  His Hebrew-speaking messengers were terrifying the common people.  But Hezekiah knew that God alone was King of the earth.

Assyria had conquered nations who trusted in “the work of men’s hands” (19:18). We trust, like Hezekiah, in the Creator who sees, hears, and loves us.
