Revelation 2-3
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (3:22). John’s revelation was directed to churches in specific cities, but his warnings and encouragements are for everyone. We are urged to remember “our first love” (2:4), to make Christ our most passionate priority. We are warned not to tolerate outright wickedness in our fellowships (2:20), since immoral behavior will influence others.
We can learn from the ancient churches how to follow Jesus better. We can “wake up, and strengthen the things that remain” (3:2) – not trusting in our reputations based on the past, but fighting the good fight in the present.
