February 11: II Chronicles 29-30

II Chronicles 29-30

“For the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him” (30:9).  King Hezekiah took Judah’s throne amidst widespread idolatry.  He immediately “opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them” (29:3), and cleansed and re-consecrated the Temple.  Eventually, he invited the whole nation to a huge Passover feast.  He showed his understanding of God’s mercy by even inviting the northern Israel tribes (30:10), with whom they often fought.

Hezekiah wanted his people to be reconciled to God, asking, “May the good Lord pardon everyone who prepares his heart to seek God” (30:19).
