February 11: Matthew 11

Matthew 11

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” (v28). Matthew places this invitation after Jesus’ words about John the Baptist (v11) and the unrepentant cities (v20). Jesus was declaring that many people saw Him (and John) and His miracles, but they refused to accept what Jesus offered. They complained that He ate with sinners (v19), and His miracles didn’t touch them (v20). Unfortunately, their hard-heartedness made them deaf to His invitation: Come to Me, and find rest.

Sometimes our insistent pride and self-justification prevents us from trusting Jesus. He offers real rest, if we will receive it.
