February 16: II Chronicles 32

II Chronicles 32

“And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as the gods of the people of the earth, the work of men’s hands” (32:19).  The army of Sennacherib of Assyria came to besiege Jerusalem, using verbal intimidation to frighten the people (v18).  These enemies said that the God of Abraham was just like other gods, a man-made idol, powerless to save.  They tried to undermine the people’s faith with persuasive words.  But King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah “cried out to heaven” (v20).

The “schemes of the devil” (Eph 6:11) are often lies, doubts, and fears. Truth, righteousness, and faith, the “full armor of God,” are our defenses.
