Proverbs 20
“An inheritance gained hurriedly at the beginning will not be blessed in the end” (v21). The proverbs assume that we all want security, food on the table, and satisfying relationships, and God cares about how we pursue these goals. “Bread obtained by falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel” (v17). Despite what the movies portray, we can’t live selfishly for years and then easily sober up and find real love and happiness.
How we live matters to God. He wants to save us from the painful regrets and scars of sin and lead us to real joy and satisfaction.
